Leah Gies

Leah Gies is the gallery’s Administrative Assistant.

Leah brings a quiet, grounded energy to her creative life. A multidisciplinary artist with years of experience in art education, she moves naturally between hand embroidery, painting, design, and sticker art, combining artistic curiosity with a practical understanding of how creativity can be shared, taught, and sustained.

Hand embroidery remains especially close to her heart. She is drawn to its slow, intentional rhythm—the attention required by every stitch and the meditative quality of repetition. Her interest in recycled and repurposed fabrics adds another dimension to this practice, turning overlooked materials into objects of beauty. At the same time, her work has found an audience online, reflecting her ability to connect traditional hand-making with contemporary ways of reaching people.

Originally from Edmonton, Leah later lived in Vancouver before choosing the Comox Valley as home. Here, she has found a community shaped by nature, friendliness, and a thriving arts scene. Today, she continues to teach embroidery workshops, connect with fellow artists, and explore new opportunities across Vancouver Island. Her work reflects something distinctive: patience without passivity, creativity grounded in everyday life, and a generous belief that art becomes richer when it is shared.
