Joy Members Show 2025
Joy
The Pearl Ellis Gallery invites the community to experience Joy, a non-juried Members’ Showcase that embraces warmth, creativity, and the simple pleasure of art.
Joy runs December 2 to 20. Join us for the opening reception on Saturday, December 6, from 1–3 pm. Meet the artists, enjoy light refreshments, and find a unique piece of local art, whether for your home or as a meaningful holiday gift.
This exhibition features a wide range of styles and mediums, including painting, photography, glass, and sculpture, highlighting the creativity of Pearl Ellis Gallery members. From expressive landscapes to vibrant abstracts and everything in between, Joy captures moments of happiness, reflection, and inspiration as the gallery closes out its 2025 season.
This exhibition also marks the debut of The Pearl’s newly refreshed gallery space, including new flooring installed this month.
After the show closes, the gallery will take a short winter break and reopen on January 6, 2026, launching the new season with a juried Themed Show, Shapes & Lines: Marks & Meaning.
Pearl Ellis Gallery, a non-profit organization, located at 1729 Comox Avenue across from Comox Mall, is open Tuesday to Saturday, 10 am to 4 pm. Admission is always free.
Shapes and Lines: Marks and Meaning
Shapes and Lines: Marks and Meaning is a juried exhibition that invites artists to delve into the raw language of visual form—line, shape, gesture, rhythm, and repetition. This show focuses on the expressive power of formal elements that often speak more through feeling than narrative, more through structure than subject.
Artists are encouraged to explore the communicative potential of these basic visual components, using them to create mood, movement, harmony, tension, or symbolic resonance. Whether through bold geometric patterns, gestural mark-making, minimalist compositions, or layered abstraction, this exhibition highlights how simple elements can hold deep complexity and meaning.
This is an ideal platform for abstract work, minimalist exploration, or process-driven pieces that center the act of making—drawing attention to how marks are made, repeated, refined, or disrupted.
Vibrations: Energy Made Visible
Capture movement, rhythm, and the pulse of life in any medium.
Applications open: February 5 – March 4
Vibrations: Energy Made Visible is a juried exhibition that invites artists to explore the invisible yet ever-present energies that shape our physical, emotional, and spiritual realities. This exhibition focuses on “vibration” in its broadest and most evocative sense—ranging from sound waves and kinetic motion to emotional resonance, intuitive currents, rhythm, and spiritual frequency.
Artists are encouraged to interpret vibration both literally and metaphorically. Whether through pulsating colour, flowing forms, dynamic gestures, or conceptual layering, artworks should strive to make these unseen forces visible and felt. From the echo of a sound to the tremble of a feeling, this show seeks works that vibrate with life, movement, and sensory impact.
Possible inspirations include:
Music and sound as visual influence
Energetic movement or motion studies
Internal states like anxiety, joy, tension, or spiritual awakening
Patterns and pulses found in nature
The resonance of intuition or memory
Shared Ground: Collaborative Art
Celebrate creativity that emerges when artists work together.
Applications open: April 28 – May 26
Shared Ground: Collaborative Art is a juried exhibition celebrating the creative possibilities that emerge when artists work together. In an art world often focused on individual expression, this show centers on co-creation—artworks made through genuine collaboration between two or more artists. We invite pairs or small collectives to submit work that reflects shared vision, process, and authorship.
From spontaneous experiments to deeply intentional projects, Shared Ground explores how artists navigate dialogue, difference, and common ground in their practices. Collaboration may be fluid or structured, harmonious or challenging—but always rooted in exchange. This exhibition showcases how working together can push boundaries, spark innovation, and foster unexpected outcomes that no single artist could achieve alone.
We welcome submissions from established duos, emerging partnerships, artist collectives, interdisciplinary teams, and spontaneous collaborations formed specifically for this opportunity.
Imaginarium: The Art of the Unseen
Invite your imagination to reveal hidden worlds, concepts, and perspectives.
Applications open: July 21 – August 18
Imaginarium: Beyond the Visible invites artists to journey past the material world into the mysterious, often intangible spaces of the inner mind, spirit, and dream. This juried exhibition explores the power of imagination to illuminate what cannot be easily seen or explained—realms shaped by memory, vision, symbolism, and the subconscious.
Whether through fantastical invention, surreal landscapes, spiritual archetypes, dreamlike abstraction, or personal mythology, Imaginarium celebrates works that embrace mystery and explore the unknown. Artists are encouraged to break away from literal representation and instead tap into intuition, inner symbolism, and the ethereal aspects of human experience.
This is a space for wonder, illusion, and transformation—a gallery where portals open, logic dissolves, and the invisible is brought to life.

From this experience emerged the Art Writers Ghost Collective, whose members have spent a year creating a series of collaborative paintings that embody their collective spirit.
