Spotlight on Craft is a new feature series that celebrates the creativity and skill of local makers. Each exhibition will focus on one maker at a time, or a small collaborative group of 2–3 makers, offering visitors a closer look at their process, materials, and artistic journey.

From fibre and clay to wood, glass, metal, and mixed media, Spotlight on Craft honours the diversity of handmade work and the makers who bring it to life.

We welcome proposals from both emerging and established makers — whether individually or as a small collaborative group — who wish to share their craft and inspire our community through their artistry.

Applications will be accepted from November 15 to December 15, 2025.

Program Details

  • Spotlight on Craft will follow the same schedule as regular gallery exhibitions, rotating approximately every 25 days.

  • All exhibition periods begin on a Tuesday and end on a Saturday.

  • Each Featured Maker or collaborative group will be promoted on the Gallery’s website and social media channels.

Eligibility and Jurying Criteria

Submissions will be juried to ensure quality, consistency, and variety. Works will be evaluated based on the following:

  • All artworks must be handmade and designed by the artist(s).

  • Items should not be mass-produced and must demonstrate high-quality craftsmanship.

  • The majority of items must be three-dimensional, such as sculpture, felted vessels, ceramics, jewelry, woodturning, fused glass, or other fine craft.

  • Scented, perishable, or food-based items will not be accepted.

  • Items must not be sold elsewhere in downtown Comox.

  • Items should include a range of price points.

  • All displayed items must be for sale, with a 20% commission retained by the Gallery.

Responsibilities of Selected Makers

Successful applicants — whether individuals or collaborative groups — will be responsible for:

  • Setting up their display on the first open day of the exhibition period (aligned with regular show installations).

  • Removing unsold items at the close of the exhibition or during regular take-down hours.

  • Restocking items if sales occur during the exhibition.

  • Ensuring all items are labeled and pre-priced, showing the artist(s) assigned sales code(s) and visible price tags.

  • Providing any additional display materials (e.g., stands, mounts, or supports) if needed.

Please note that while all reasonable care is taken, the Pearl Ellis Gallery is not responsible for any loss or damage to items on display.
